I'm not sure anything be cuter or more perfectly suited for today than this Christmas tree farm proposal captured by Black & Hue Photography! I'll admit, Desiree and I were both nearly squealing with glee when we opened all this adorableness... we knew it'd be the perfect way to celebrate the season and warm all our hearts.
Rebecca and Justin met through mutual friends, but grew their relationship as so many do these days: online. A Facebook friendship eventually led to a message from Justin complimenting Rebecca's hair. Flattery must have worked on her, because their first true lunch date occurred after that, and the rest is history.
When Becca made plans to head to Havana, a small town just north of Tallahassee, to have lunch with her family, Justin seized the opportunity and starting planning the perfect surprise proposal: "Perfect," I thought. There's a Christmas tree farm just before you reach Havana, so this will be a great spot to propose on the way back! It was all coming together in my mind and I let Bryan (of Black & Hue) in on the plans." Justin stashed a small basket of props in the back seat of his car, had Bryan come pick them up, and told Rebecca they'd be taking some fun, outdoorsy pictures around town. As they walked through the trees, taking pictures and having a good time, they stumbled upon the set up props.
"Wait... This is my stuff?!!", Becca exclaimed. She noticed the scroll of rolled up paper that had a tag with her name on it and I think I said, "You better open it up and find out what it is!" She tried opening it, but she was suddenly so shaky she could hardly use her hands, so I helped her. Inside was a typography poster I made and had printed of an Avett Brothers song lyric that I knew she loved. I also really like the quote and it's a message of love and family which are important to both of us. While she was reading the poster, I'm pretty sure this is when I got down on one knee.
Justin, an Art Director, had designed and printed one more surprise piece for his bride-to-be: a small card that said "What's Your Deal?". The story behind it was my favorite detail of all: On our first date, Becca asked me this, attempting to "figure me out." She knew she liked me and wanted to make sure I had good intentions. It was such a funny moment – the ways she asked it – and it's been an ongoing inside joke ever since. On the inside of the card was just a small message that basically said I would love her forever.
As she read the card, with tears in her eyes, Justin brought out the ring. I think she was pretty happy with it, don't you??
The two are currently in the beginning stages of planning their big day - Justin tells us that a fall 2014 wedding is probably in the cards. Congratulations, you two - and merry merry Christmas!
