When I read the sweet story behind Lisa and Ben's engagement and wedding, I just knew I had to share it with you. Although we make it our priority to feature the couples as well as the events here on Floridian Weddings, as wedding bloggers we do tend to deal more in the details - gorgeous venues, stunning photography, adorable little ideas for you to incorporate in your own day... everything that inspires. But what really inspires me the most is the story - and this one is really worth sharing.
Lisa is in the US Navy and stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa; Ben was in the German Navy. They met while on vacation and nothing has been the same since. In Lisa's words: "On October 28, 2009 Ben who was in the German Navy and I who have been in the US Navy for 13 years met on vacation in Jamaica. We hit it off and although stationed in different states we spent every and any opportunity together over the next 5 months. I have never met a better man, he is handsome, very kind, strong and sweet; he is my angel. He took my son Cody and I into his heart and calls us his family. Ben is my best friend, whom I look forward to spending the rest of my life with. I thank God every day for bringing us together and believe with all my heart and soul that we are meant to be together forever."
Two years later, Ben took Lisa and her son Cody on a dinner cruise and popped the question, and Lisa wrote a very lucky email to enter a giveaway for a $40,000 dream wedding by the Bay Area Bridal Association. They were competing with 100+ other military couples... and they won. You can watch the story here as reported by Fox News.
As part of the dream, Ben and Lisa also received an engagement session from the talented husband and wife team, Brian and Angela of Loving Legacy Photography. As Angela tells us, "The session took place at a gorgeous park in Seminole, Florida, and despite it being in the winter time, we had to battle mosquitoes every location we visited! Ben and Lisa were great sports, but she did have bites to show for her courage."
Ben and Lisa were married in January, and I'm hoping it fulfilled all the promises of what a dream wedding can be. But something tells me, wedding or no, Ben and Lisa had already found their dream. As Ben tells us, "For my part, I have never felt closer to any person in my life. Lisa is my soul mate and I was so lucky finding her. She has such a beautiful heart; her smile touched me immediately. What more could I have done, than making her mine forever."
Our most heartfelt congratulations to you Ben and Lisa (and Cody)! You are so deserving and we wish you the best. And our thanks to Loving Legacy Photography for sharing the lovely engagement photos with us.
