Robert, a structural engineer and Jessica, a communications consultant, met during high school in Fort Pierce and attended Florida State University together. They dated for almost seven years before deciding to tie the knot at the lovely Heathcote Botanical Gardens with a casual BBQ reception afterwards at Jessica's family home. Our Fave Chris Kruger captured all the lovely details of this intimate, laid-back and beautiful day.
Jessica tells us that it took a lot of research to figure out what the two really wanted for their wedding day: "We hadn't really thought much about the day, but we were so excited to marry each other and wanted it to be a great celebration. After a few tours of typical venues, we decided it wasn't for us and we wanted something a bit more personal. We wanted the wedding to be personal, romantic, casual and fun!"
Jessica and Robert wrote their own ceremony and vows together, and speaking them in the gardens in front of their loved ones was their favorite part of the day.
“Fort Pierce is our hometown, where we met, and where our families live, so I can't imagine getting married anywhere else. We were married under a mature oak tree at the gardens with just our closest family and friends. It was perfect and very intimate, and we were surrounded by love. ”
After the ceremony, a larger group was invited back to Jessica's parents' home, and were treated to a meal of her family's competition BBQ (yum!), cheese pairings with wine and beer, and the couple's favorite dessert: an ice cream bar.
When everyone joined us for the reception, it was a great celebration. We couldn't have done it without the help of our friends and family, but I loved how personal every detail was during our wedding day. Everything was a representation of Robert and I and we had a fantastic night!
