Shelley, a speech pathologist, and Erik, a Navy helicopter pilot, brought guests from all over to celebrate their union this past Memorial Day in Pensacola. Our Fave Aislinn Kate Photography captured their casual, fun, nautical-inspired day in her perfect-as-always fashion; I can't imagine a better testimonial than the bride's note to us: "We love Aislinn and feel so lucky to have had her do our wedding photography. She is phenomenal."
The story of how Shelley and Erik met is proof that not everything stays in Vegas (Ha! Sorry, couldn't help myself): "Erik and I met in Las Vegas while we were both on vacation. When we first met we had so much fun with each other and our friends, but after only a few days together in Las Vegas we each went home. We kept in touch and over time and over quite some distance our relationship grew into a very strong and real connection."
“The first look is something we debated about doing, but it was such a wonderful and intimate moment to have with just the two of us. Everything went by so fast!”
How adorable is their maltese, Gus? He was all decked out in his ring bearer finest: a grey suit and navy bow tie.
After Erik graduated from the Naval Academy in 2013, and moved from Annapolis to Pensacola to start flight training, Shelley moved from her hometown in Minnesota to be with him. With families and friends spread across the country, and Erik's limited time off from training, they decided to marry in the place of their first home together. Downtown Pensacola's 5eleven was their first choice for venues, says Shelley: "It's just such a naturally beautiful building, and we really liked the downtown area."
The two filled their day with fun navy and lime green nautical-inspired details: Anchor-adorned matches and cake topper, oar signing instead of a guestbook, and modern arrangements of simple blooms in green and white.
Congratulations, you two! Best wishes in all your adventures to come.
