Some days, a photographer we adore (like Dear Wesleyann) shares a wedding with us that is so perfectly Floridian... a slice of stylish, effortless, toes-in-the-sand perfection that gives us a chance to show the world how to do it right. This is definitely that kind of day, and I'm pretty sure you're going to fall hard for this gorgeous couple.
Aja, an actress, and Jay, a screenwriter, met 10 years ago through mutual friends at a music room in Los Angeles. They dated on and off, but remained close friends... and when the timing was finally right, everything just fell into place. Says Aja, "I always say, I fell in love with my best friend and it's such a blessing. There's a great understanding between us for each other's hectic schedules and the demands of the business."
Jay was so helpful during the planning of our wedding. I definitely had some "freak out" moments and he would just step in, take care of things, and put it all in perspective. He's such a calm and solid person so we really balance each other out. With my creativity and attention to detail, and his encouraging support, our wedding turned into such a beautiful and fun event that really represented our outgoing personalities.
Aja's parents retired to this GORGEOUS Santa Rosa Beach home, providing Aja and Jay with an easy choice for their day: "We are not a very religious couple so a church didn't really fit our style - a beautiful beach felt like us. And it's a beach I spent almost every summer on when I was growing up, so the sentimental value was very strong as well." The location also gave Aja and Jay the chance to share their Southern heritage with LA friends who had never heard of the area.
“I'm from Memphis and he's from Atlanta... we're southern kids who moved to LA to follow our dreams and found each other in the process.”
The beachfront ceremony stood out the most for the bride, and I adore how she described it to us: The sun was shining, the ocean was so blue, Jay looked so handsome, the flowers were whimsical, and our vows were so romantic. I initially had thought that the reception would be my favorite part - and it was awesome. But when my Dad walked me down the beach to Jay and I saw all our friends and family there including our dog, Sasha, who was our ring bearer, it was just breathtaking. And our phenomenal photographer, Wesleyann, was there to capture it all!
After their "I do's", the celebration moved to the lawn at Gulf Place, where they toasted, dined and danced under the stars. Says Aja, "There were so many memorable moments from our wedding weekend. Being surrounded by our friends and family was so special."
Can't get enough, right? Luckily, Momentus Films was also on hand that day, and I have to say... this just might be the best wedding film I've ever seen. Really, y'all - it's epic.
Congratulations, Jayja! May the 4th (always) be with you.
