When brainstorming our signature cocktail for November, we immediately thought of pear and ginger flavors; something sweetly spicy would be perfection with the soups, sweets and savory dishes of the season, don't you think?
So, we whipped a few Pear Haymakers - ripe, juicy pear muddled with ginger and lemon makes for an easy drinking (but not too sweet) signature cocktail. We were inspired by this recipe from Saveur, stepping up the flavors a bit with pear vodka and ginger beer. It's sure to go perfectly with the delish bites served up in your fall wedding, no matter what the Florida weather brings!
(adapted from this recipe from Talula's Garden)
1/4 cup peeled, sliced ginger
1 cup sugar
4 oz. pear flavored vodka
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
1 very ripe pear, peeled and chopped
Ginger beer, for topping
First, make the ginger syrup: combine ginger, sugar, and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Remove from heat and allow to cool; the longer you let it steep, the stronger the ginger flavor. Strain and store in an airtight container.
Divide the pear between two tall highball glasses, and muddle until pear is pureed. Pour half of the vodka into each glass, then fill with ice. Add 1/2 oz of ginger syrup and 1/2 oz. lemon juice to each glass and stir to combine. Top with ginger beer.
Makes two cocktails. Enjoy!
