We adore when couples incorporate their everyday lives into their engagement session. It's a sweet way of showing what normal life is like and Mark Dickinson thought that was the just the thing to do for Katie & Brendan. So they hopped on a train to their favorite town and spent the day exploring and kissing.
Brendan is a locomotive engineer for a Central Florida freight train company, hence the inspiration for their photo shoot. Katie had found a different shot of a couple near a train and once she contacted Mark, it turns out that train was the one Brendan works on: "We were absolutely blown away with Mark's photo that we had to hire him! While deciding where to stage our engagement session he suggested the Deland train station to ride the Amtrak train to Winter Park, one of our favorite places to go. The train theme was very fitting and we had a blast."
Brendan and Katie officially met on Christmas Eve, 2009, at his family's home in Massachusetts. Katie is best friends with Brendan's sister, so she had known the family for years but this visit was different. His sister played matchmaker and towards the end of the evening's festivities, the family kept asking Brendan, "Did you guys hit it off?" At the time, Brendan was living in Florida but despite the distance they decided to give the relationship a try. They went skiing and snowboarding at Mt. Sunapee and Nashoba Valley and adored that the other enjoyed being active, also.
When Katie finally made a trip to Florida, her nerves got the best of her. Says Katie, "Now it was my turn to see him in his element. I was so nervous to come visit his small town, New Smyrna Beach. When I got there, I saw how much charm it had and instantly fell in love. We took sunset walks on the boardwalk and had spent days on the beach. My favorite memory was when Brendan surprised me with the perfect date. He reserved a campsite on the Cape Canaveral seashore. It was a private site just for us and the soft sound of the waves under the starlight was so romantic!" Shortly thereafter, Katie made the move to Central Florida. They continue to go camping and hiking, searching for new vegan restaurants, and spending time with their pets, Winter and Autumn. Their vintage-inspired wedding will take place next fall at the Wilbur Boathouse.
We're so excited for you, Katie and Brendan! Enjoy the rest of your planning time and we can't wait to see the images from your wedding day!
