We have SUCH a special treat today to kick off the week: a nautical Yacht Club wedding with polka dot dresses and sweet details (like the adorable seal cake toppers!), captured beautifully by Minerva Photography.
A laid-back couple at heart, Nilsa and Josh stepped it up a bit for their wedding day to make it feel special, going with a semi-formal feel. As she was living in New Orleans at the time, most of the planning was done at a distance, and Nilsa designed the invitations herself - I love the simple, modern, elegant-but-not-stuffy look... she captured the tone perfectly!
How adorable are the navy and white polka dot dresses Nilsa's bridesmaids wore? They're from ModCloth.
The two met in high school, and were friends before they started dating. They found common ground with a similar sense of humor and their love of animals. Says Nilsa, "Josh is a great story-teller and always makes me laugh; I always have some quick wit to add."
The Yacht Club was the perfect compromise for this couple, as Nilsa wanted waterfront and Josh wanted an indoor location (in case of rain or heat). As Nilsa told us: We found the perfect venue at the Lauderdale Yacht Club because of the covered waterfront pavilion where we had the cocktail hour before the ceremony, water front ceremony at sundown and indoor reception (In the AC of course :-) Navy blue is my favorite color and having the wedding at the yacht club meant that the nautical theme was already loud and clear... so it worked out very well to have navy blue and cream. Josh and I both love animals, especially fish and other "sea animals", and I really love being waterfront!
One of my friends from New Orleans owns an event rental & planning company called New Orleans Vintage Rentals, so I hired her to be the planner/day-of coordinator. With her artistic hand she made all the place cards, chalk boards and set up everything. I am very proud of the fact that I designed and made the invitations and that my mom, can you believe it, made the floral arrangements, centerpieces, bouquets, etc. She is very talented and has always had a knack for flowers.
Our cake was designed by Enchanting Creations in Miami Shores. I basically gave no instruction on the cake and asked the baker to come up with something creative. I always believe that giving creative people license to do what they are good at pays off. I gave them an invitation set to give them an idea of our theme and they came up with the cake idea. We were really happy with the cake and were surprised that the toppers were two seals, which is a special animal for us. We had them also make some vegan cupcakes for our vegan/lactose intolerant friends.
Everything about the day was so special. I remember being in the room and looking around at all the people who came from all over the world to be there on our special day, it was amazing. Because of the manageable size of our guests (about 115 people) we were able to share special moments with everyone. The Ketubah signing was REALLY special, as we has the chance to be married surrounded by our closest family and friends. Also, our witnesses were very important people in our lives, so it was special to share that moment.
Congrats to Nilsa and Joshua! And big thanks to Minerva Photography for sharing this lovely day with us.
