Costa Rica is a popular escape for Floridians in a recent years, and it's pretty easy to see why: gorgeous beaches, lush rain forests, friendly residents and an easy 3-ish hour hop across the Caribbean to get there. Our Central Florida Fave photographer Melissa Enid Photography recently traveled to Guanacaste, on the Pacific side, to shoot a destination wedding and enjoy a little R&R; happily, she shared her photos, tips and adventures in paradise with us! Ready to dive in?
To reach Guanacaste, you can fly into San Jose (the largest airport with the most available direct flights) and then rent a car or take a bus for the five hour drive to the west coast. In Melissa's experience, when all the costs were tallied up, it's about the same price to fly directly into Liberia airport, which is only about a 45 minute drive (about $45 for a taxi) from Guanacaste. American Airlines offers direct flights form Miami to Liberia.
GETTING AROUND & GETTING BY
Melissa and her group stayed at the Hotel RIU Palace Costa Rica, and used taxis and shuttles to get around while they were there; she highly recommends Manuel of Guanacaste Viajes & Tours. Says Melissa, "He was great and had a US number so I actually called him before we traveled over."
A FEW IDEAS
Melissa found the area to be full of fun things to do, both on land and on the water. A boat trip is an obvious place to start: Melissa and friends opted for a Catamaran tour, with snorkeling and wildlife spotting, where they found dolphins, turtles and two humpback whales.
Her group loved the Adventure Park at Rincón de la Vieja National Park where they enjoyed zip lining, horse back riding, hiking and hot springs.
On their last day in Guanacaste, they ventured to Playa Hermosa for happy hour and a sunset dinner at Roberto's, a beachside bar, restaurant and guesthouse. Doesn't that lobster look amaze?
Of course, I couldn't miss this chance to send out an "official" congrats to the soon-to-be-a-bride Melissa, and her love Tyler! He popped the question just a few weeks ago... and now the planning begins. We're so happy for you both!
